Flavio Briatore has stated that he feels that Fernando Alonso made the right choice by returning to McLaren. The double world champion who spent five years with Scuderia Ferrari joined Jenson Button at the Woking based outfit over the winter as the team began their new partnership with Honda.

Alonso felt that the team would score their first points last time out in Monaco however although they did it was his team mate Jenson Button who finished the race in the top ten with an eighth place finish earning the Woking based outfit four points.

Speaking to Reuters, Briatore stated that he felt that it was time for a change for both Alonso and Ferrari and he feels that the new environment has been good for the double world champion. McLaren and Honda have a rich history and were extremely successful during the late 80’s with Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost and the team are hoping that they will be in a position to be competitive soon.

The teams performance in Monte Carlo showed that they are making progress. Button managed to get the MP4-30 into the top ten in qualifying after a number of penalties on the grid.

Briatore believes that the Alonso at McLaren with Honda shows that they have a bright future together. The team will have a new upgrade package for the MP30 for the Austrian Grand Prix and later in the season in Hungary.
