Rosberg Leads The Way In FP1 As Rossi Suffers Gearbox Penalty
Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team’s Nico Rosberg set the fastest time in this morning Free Practice One ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday. The German set a fastest time of 1m 47.995s ending the session just ahead of championship leader Lewis Hamilton who was 0.319s behind Rosberg with Daniel Ricciardo in the Red Bull in third place.
Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel set the fourth fastest time of the morning ending the session just ahead of his team mate Kimi Raikkonen.
Valtteri Bottas was sixth fastest for the Williams Martini Racing Team ending the session just ahead of Max Verstappen and Nico Hulkenberg’s Sahara Force India. Carlos Sainz in the second Toro Rosso was ninth fastest while the Lotus F1 Team’s Pastor Maldonado rounded out the top ten.
It was a great session for McLaren Honda’s Fernando Alonso as the Spaniard finished the session in eleventh place just ahead of Sergio ‘Checco’ Perez in the second Force India.
Felipe Nasr was 13th fastest in the first Sauber C34 who have brought a heavily revised car to the Singapore Grand Prix which their team principal Monisha Keltenborn has confirmed that it will be their final major upgrade of the season.
Romain Grosjean in the second Lotus E23 Hybrid was 14th fastest ending the session just ahead of Jenson Button in the second McLaren MP4-30.
Marcus Ericsson in the second Sauber was 16th fastest ending the session just ahead of the second Williams Martini Racing’s car of Felipe Massa. Red Bull Racing’s Daniil Kvyat had a troubled opening session and ended up in 18th place.
Will Stevens was 19th fastest for the Manor F1 Team while his new team mate Alexander Rossi, making his Formula One race debut this weekend brought out the red flag due to a heavy inpact with the wall. The Californian will have a five place grid penalty for Sunday’s race due to a gearbox penalty.
