Webber Was Extremely Close To Signing For Ferrari For 2013

 Webber wanted a two year contract

Mark Webber has revealed that he very nearly signed for Ferrari for the 2013 Formula One season and that contracts had even been written up.

In his book, the Australian confirmed that two days following his victory in Monaco in 2012 he was back in Monte Carlo for a meeting with than Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali and his manager Flavio Briatore on Briatore’s boat.

The contract being offered was for one year with the option of a second year in 2014 however the Australian revealed that the sticking point was the fact that Team Webber were looking for a two year deal and in the end the deal was never done. Webber revealed that Domenicali, Alonso and Briatore all wanted the deal to be done.

Webber went on to say that he exchanged a few calls with Fernando Alonso but determined that a move to Maranello was not right for him.

In Silverstone, Christian Horner offered Webber a new contract and the deal was done.
