Button Not Ready To Make Announcement But It Will Come Sooner Rather Than Later
McLaren Honda’s Jenson Button has revealed to Sky Sports F1 HD’s Ted Kravitz that he is not ready to make an announcement about his plans for next season amid continuing speculation surrounding the 2009 champion’s future.
I can’t say anything else on the matter, I’m sorry. All I can say is that this year has been a really difficult year for the whole team and I do feel it has brought us a lot closer together. The decision we make as a team on the whole will be the right one. The decision will be made myself and the team and will be the right one for the team and myself.
However speaking at the FIA Team Principal’s press conference in Japan McLaren Honda Chief Operations Officer Jonathan Neale seemed to suggest that Button’s time in Formula One is coming to an end despite the fact that the team want him to say. Neale commented:
There’s a lot of discussion about where Jenson is at, He is a fantastic guy, a World Champion, and a big part of our family at Honda and McLaren. We are contracted with him, we want him to stay and we like him very much, but if you are a driver who doesn’t really want to be in a seat, then you have to respect that.
Neale concluded by saying:
I really hope we have done enough between us to continue those discussions with him and have the confidence to have him with us. That is what we would like.
