Lotus F1 Team Confirm Grosjean Departure With The Frenchman Set To Join The Haas F1 Team
The Lotus F1 Team have officially confirmed that Romain Grosjean will leave the Enstone outfit at the end of the season with the Frenchman expected to be confirmed as a Haas F1 Team driver on Tuesday.
Speaking to F1i Lotus Deputy Team Principal Frederico Gastaldi confirmed the news on Friday saying:
We obviously had Romain and Pastor [Maldonado]. Romain has been with us for seven years on the Gravity program. For me personally and I’m sure for the whole team it will be sad to see him going because he’s been part of the family. He has developed himself in the right direction. He’s smart, he’s quick, he’s committed and he has a strong head.
The Enstone outfit who are currently struggling financially and have been locked out of their hospitality area at the Suzuka circuit with team confirming on Twitter that Formula One commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone having provided them with lunch.
What is not clear is the identity of who will replace Grosjean next season with their test and reserve driver Jolyon Palmer favourite to take the seat.
It is believed that the current situation with Lotus and the uncertainty about the team’s future played a key role in Grosjean’s decision to leave the team. Gene Haas and Haas F1 Team Principal Guenther Steiner will reveal their driver line up on Tuesday in Kannapolis with Ferrari test driver Esteban Gutierrez set to be confirmed along with Grosjean.
