Magnussen Set To Replace Maldonado At Renault As PDVSA Talks Break Down
Former McLaren driver Kevin Magnussen is the favourite to replace Pastor Maldonado at the Renault F1 Team.
It is believed that the Dane visited the Enstone last week over two days to hold talks with senior management about the possibility of teaming up with Jolyon Palmer at the outfit for this season.
Magnussen made his Formula One debut alongside Jenson Button at McLaren in 2014 and secured a podium finish in his first race, the Australian Grand Prix. However the Dane was dropped at the end of the season in favour of Fernando Alonso as McLaren made the switch from Mercedes to Honda.
Pastor Maldonado secured one race win for Williams in 2012 when his won the Spanish Grand Prix at the Barcelona Circuit Du Catalunya. The Venezuelan has since than become a driver with a reputation for crashing which has earned him the nickname ‘Crashtor’.
Maldonado joined the then Lotus F1 Team in 2014 replacing Kimi Raikkonen who moved to Ferrari.
The only remaining seat left in Formula One is with Manor Racing.
