Newgarden Could Be On The Verge Of A Move To Penske

Reports from the United States have suggested that Ed Carpenter Racing’s Josef Newgarden is on the verge of joining Roger Penske’s team in the Verizon IndyCar Series for 2017.

Newgarden, who has had an extremely impressive 2016 campaign, finishing in 4th place in the series points standings is out of contract with Ed Carpenter Racing, however Newgarden has been offered a new contract but as yet has not decided what his plans are for 2017.

Team Penske secured a 1,2,3 finish in the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series championship with Simon Pagenaud winning his first title with Will Power second and Helio Castroneves third.

Juan Pablo Montoya in the No.2 Team Penske Chevrolet is out of contract and it is widely expected that he will not be with the Captain in 2017. It has been reported that Montoya was made aware that he would not be with Penske next season in July and he is currently in talks with several teams for next season.

Penske was also believed to be interested in signing Indianapolis 500 winner Alexander Rossi, however that now seems unlikely with Rossi reportedly in advanced talks with Bryan Herta and Michael Andretti about a three year contract.
