Dixon Hoping To Remain Up Front In Qualifying After Topping Final Practice
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon in the No.9 GE LED Lighting Honda ended the final practice session ahead of qualifying for the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season opening Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg as the fastest driver.
The New Zealander who was fastest in second practice on Friday set a time of 01:01.6240s ending the session just ahead of Schmidt Peterson Motorsports James Hinchcliffe in the No.5 Arrow Electronics Honda. Alexander Rossi in the No.98 NAPA Auto Parts Honda for Andretti Autosport rounded out the top three.
Max Chilton in the No.8 Gallagher Honda made it two Chip Ganassi Racing cars in the top four.
Dale Coyne Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais was fifth fastest with a time of 01:01.7634s ending the session just ahead of Marco Andretti in the No.27 hhgregg Honda for Andretti Autosport. Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden in the No.2 Verizon Team Penske was the fastest Chevrolet powered driver in seventh place ending the session just ahead of Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter Reay in the No.28 DHL Honda.
Tony Kanaan in the No.10 NTT DATA Honda was ninth fastest for Chip Ganassi Racing while Team Penske’s Will Power in the No.12 Verizon Chevrolet rounded out the top ten.
Reigning series champion Simon Pagenaud in the No.1 PPG Automotive Refinish Chevrolet for Team Penske ended the session in 11th place just ahead of Chip Ganassi Racing team’s Charlie Kimball in the No.83 Tresiba® Honda.
Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal in the No.15 Steak N’Shake Honda ended the session in 13th place just ahead of AJ Foyt Racing’s Carlos Munoz in the No.14 ABC Supply Co. Chevrolet. Team Penske’s Helio Castroneves in the No.3 Hitachi Chevrolet ended his session early due to an issue with the car ending the session in 15th place.
JR Hildebrand in the No.21 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet ended the session in 16th place just ahead of Andretti Autosport’s Takuma Sato.
Spencer Pigot ended the session 18th place in the No.20 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet just ahead of Dale Coyne Racing’s Ed Jones. SMP Racing’s Mikhail Aleshin ended the session in 20th place in the No.7 Honda.
Conor Daly in the No.4 ABC Supply Co Chevrolet for AJ Foyt Racing rounded out the order in 21st place.
