Vettel Beats Hamilton To Win In Melbourne

Scuderia Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel took voctory in the season opening Rolex® Australian Grand Prix at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne on Sunday.

Vettel, who started today’s race from the front row alongside pole sitter Lewis Hamilton and took the lead following the pit-stops and never looked back takinghis first Australian Grand Prix victory since 2011.

In his first race for Mercedes, Valtteri Bottas showed great pace and at times,was faster than Lewis Hamilton who was suffering from an in and out mechanical issue, Bottas finoshed the race on the podium in third place.

Kimi Raikkonen in the second Ferrari will be disappointed with race result coming home where he started in fourth place while his team mate won the event.

Raikkonen was able to hold off a late charge from Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen who finished the race in fifth place.

Felipe Massa had a great race for Williams Martini Racing coming home in sixth place while Force India’s Sergio Perez did a fantastic job for the Silverstone based outfit as he ended the race in seventh place just ahead of the Toro Rosso pairing of Carlos Sainz and Daniil Kvyat.

Esteban Ocon did a great job in his first race for Force India, scoring a point rounding out the top ten.

Nico Hulkenberg will be disappointed after missing out on a top ten finish as he ended his first race with the Renault Sport F1 Team just outaide the top ten in 11th place.

Antonio Giovinazzi who was subbing for Pascal Wehrlein in the Sauber ended his first race in 12th place just ahead of McLaren Honda’s Stoffel Vandoorne who rounded out the classification in 13th place

Daniel Ricciarso suffered a mechanical issue on his way to the grid and it was touch and go as to whether or not he would start his home race but he did from the pitlane however he was lwft frustrated as he retired from the race along with McLaren Honda’s Fernando Alonso, Williams Martini Racing’s Lance Stroll who retired from his first F1 race.

Following and impressive debut here 12 months ago where they scored points, the Haas F1 Team had a tough event as both Kevin Magnusson and Romain Grosjean retired from the race.

The Sauber F1 Team’s Marcus Ericsson also retired from the race as did the Renault Sport F1 Team’s Jolyon Palmer.

Vettel’s victory is fantastic way for Ferrari to start the season and a great platform to build on geading to round two, the Chinese Grand Prix at the Shanghai International circuit in two weeks time.
