Former McLaren driver Jenson Button is more than likely set to replace Fernando Alonso for the Monaco Grand Prix.

It was confirmed on Wednesday that Fernando Alonso will skip the Monaco Grand Prix to compete in the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil meaning McLaren need a replacement.

Prior to announcing his retirement from Formula One, Button, the 2009 world champion signed a fresh contract with the Woking based outfit to act as reserve driver meaning he would step in should either McLaren driver be unable available to race.

McLaren Executive Director Zak Brown has confirmed that no decision has been made on who will replace Alonso but he has stated that when the decision is made it will be McLaren Racing Director Eric Boullier (who is in charge of the F1 team) who will make the final call.
