McLaren Executive Director Zak Brown has said that the team do not have any expectations about how they will perform at the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil next month.

Brown will join Alonso at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the ‘Great Spectacle in Motorsport’.

Speaking about Fernando Alonso and the fact the Spaniard has not competed on an oval circuit before, Brown commented by saying:

Fernando’s not scared! He’s going to get some testing in,” Brown explained. “He’s studying Indianapolis. It’s obviously going to be a challenge but he wants a challenge. A rookie driver won it last year, not that we’re going to set any expectations.

“I think he’ll have a car capable of running at the front. I think he’ll be extremely prepared. I think he’ll put on a good show. He’s very smart, that’s what you need to be around Indianapolis. I think it’s going to be good, everyone’s going to be watching.

Alonso will join Andretti Autosport at the Honda Grand Prix of Alabama next weekend at Barber Motorsports Park before having a seat fitting with the team the following Monday.
