Alonso Told Not To Play It Safe
Mario Andretti says he and his son Michael don’t want new driver, two time Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso to play it safe as he gets up to speed in the Verizon IndyCar Series car ahead of making his Indianapolis 500 debut next month.
Andretti revealed that his son’s team will have a plan in place at the 2.5 mile oval.
Alonso will begin preparation for the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil the day after the Spanish Grand Prix next month.
Andretti said that the fact Andretti Autosport are running six cars in the Indianapolis 500 including Alonso’s McLaren will allow the team to run a mock race and help Alonso to learn to run in traffic.
