Andretti Autosport Honda Grand Prix Of Alabama Preview
It has been a busy few weeks for Andretti Autosport since the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. The Verizon IndyCar Series team have confirmed that Jack Harvey will drive for them partnering with Michael Shank Racing for the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil while the biggest news story broke last week with the announcement that Andretti Autosport have teamed up with the McLaren Technology Group to run double Formula One world champion and McLaren F1 driver Fernando Alonso in a McLaren Andretti Honda in the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500.
Alonso will join the team this weekend at the Honda Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park.
Andretti Autosport head to Barber Motorsports Park this weekend aiming to bounce back from an extremely disappointing Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach which saw none of the team’s four cars finish the race which was the first time something like has happened to the team where they have had no cars finish a race.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s event, Ryan Hunter Reay who took back to back victories here with Andretti Autosport in 2013 and 2014 commented by saying:
We have one goal this weekend and that is to get back to our winning ways at Barber. After logging race wins in 2013 and 2014 we’ve spent too much time away from the podium here. The team, as a whole, has done a great job through the first two rounds of the series when it comes to fielding fast, competitive race cars. Long Beach is yet another race that slipped form our grasp, so we’ll be looking to rebound strong this weekend.
Takuma Sato heads to Barber Motorsports Park aiming to improve on a best finish here of 13th place which came in 2014 and last season and speaking ahead of the race, he commented by saying:
Barber is a fun track. It has good elevations with beautiful greens and dense woods. Nicely flowing high-speed corners make it quite challenging, and I always enjoy driving there. We had a productive test at this track a few weeks ago which was a warm day so much more representative of the race weekend than the usual cold spring test. Despite the track being very fast and a great corner combination, it is very difficult to make an overtake. So qualifying will be very important, and the speed we showed at test was encouraging. We had a tough weekend at Long Beach so hope everything will go well this weekend.
Marco Andretti, driving the No.27 United Fiber & Data Honda has best finish of second place here which came in 2014 when Andretti Autosport scored a 1-2 finish. Speaking ahead of the race this weekend, Andretti stated:
It’s really important that we look to this weekend to rebound from Long Beach. Somehow we are still top 10 in the points standings, and we don’t want to fall any lower. We had a good test at Barber a few weeks back, so we are looking to convert that into a podium or win for the 27 team.
Alexander Rossi is excited about the race this weekend and speaking ahead of the event he commented by saying:
I’m very excited to get to Barber this weekend. We’ve dealt with our fair share of bad luck already this year, so hopefully we can translate the inherent pace we know we have in the car into a result.
