IndyCar Shows It Is A World Leader In Motorsport
The Verizon IndyCar Series has shown that it is a leading category in world motorsport as it has managed to attract one of the biggest names in global motorsport.
This weekend the series heads to Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham Alabama for round 3 of the 2017 season. The event will be attended by Andretti Autosport’s newest driver. Two time Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso from the McLaren Formula One team will join team-mates, Ryan Hunter Reay, Marco Andretti, Takuma Sato and reigning Indianapolis 500 champion Alexander Rossi for the race weekend.
Alonso has won the Monaco Grand Prix twice and is aiming for the motorsport triple crown, winning the Indianapolis 500 and winning the LeMans 24 Hours. The Spaniard who won the Formula One world champion with Renault in 2005 and 2006 will immerse himself in the Verizon IndyCar Series over the coming weeks starting this weekend at Barber before heading to Indianapolis for a seat fitting with chassis manufacturer Dallara.
Mark Miles, CEO of Hulman and Company, the parent company of the Verizon IndyCar Series along with his team have done a fantastic job with the help of McLaren Technology Group Executive Director Zak Brown and Andretti Autosport has brought Formula One driver Fernando Alonso to next months 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil.
Outside of the Indianapolis 500, the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season is shaping up to be an incredibly exciting one.
In the opening two races of the season, at the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg and the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, two of the smaller teams in the series took victory both with Honda power, showing that Honda have improved dramatically over the winter.
It will be interesting to see what the rest of the season has in store for the series, but one thing is certain it is going be a CRACKING SEASON!
