Ferrari Lead The Way On The Opening Day In Russia
Scuderia Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen led the way as the opening day of practice for Sunday’s Russian Grand Prix at the Sochi circuit got underway. In the morning session, Raikkonen set blistering pace while Vettel ended the morning in fifth place following a spin.
In the afternoon session, it was Vettel’s turn to set the fastest time with a 01:34.120s while Raikkonen was second with a 01:32.383s.
The Ferrari paired ended the day just ahead of the Mercedes pairing of Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton. The Red Bull Racing pairing of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo finished the day in fifth and sixth place respectively.
Felipe Massa was seventh for Williams Martini Racing ending the session just ahead of Renault’s Nico Hulkenberg.
The Haas F1 Team’s Kevin Magnussen ended the session in ninth place just ahead of Force India’s Sergio Perez who rounded out the top ten. Esteban Ocon who lost his engine cover came off during the day of running was 11th fastest in the second Force India while Fernando Alonso ended the day in 12th place. Jolyon Palmer had a good day as he ended the day in 13th place for the Renault Sport F1 Team.
Romain Grosjean ended the day in 14th place just ahead of Toro Rosso’s Carlos Sainz. Stoffel Vandoorne who has a 15 place grid penalty this weekend as a result of an engine change ended the day in 16th just ahead of Daniil Kvyat.
Pascal Wehrlein ended the day in 18th place for Sauber just ahead of Lance Stroll while Marcus Ericsson rounded out the order in 20th place.
