Bottas Takes Maiden F1 Win In Russia
Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team’s Valtteri Bottas is a race winner. The Finn fought off a late charge from pole sitter Sebastian Vettel in the Ferrari to win the Russian Grand Prix at ghe Sochi circuit.
Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen secure d Ferrari’s first front row lock out since the French Grand Prix in 2008 however they were unable to convert it to victory following a tough start to the race.
Kimi Raikkonen in the second Ferrari claimed his first podium finish of the season coming home in third place just ahead of Lewis Hamilton.
Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen finished the race in fifth place just ahead of Force India’s Sergio Perez with his team Esteban Ocon coming home in seventh giving the Silverstone based outfit another double points finish.
Renault Sport F1 Team’s Nico Hulkenberg ended the race in eighth place just ahead of Williams Martini Racing’s Felipe Massa while Carlos Sainz rounded out the top ten.
Lance Stroll had a performance that he can build on as the Canadian rookie completed his first official race distance for Williams.
Daniil Kvyat finished the race in 12th for Toro Rosso just ahead of the Haas F1 Team’s Kevin Magnussen. Stoffel Vandoorne ended the race in 14th for McLaren Honda.
The Sauber F1 Team’s Marcus Ericsson and Pascal Wehrlein roundes out the order in 15th and 16th place respectively.
The initial start of the race had to be aborted as McLaren Honda’s Fernando Alonso stopped on the formation lap meaning the race distance was reduced by a lap.
When the race got underway the safety car was brought out following a collision between the Haas F1 Team’s Romain Grosjean and the Renault Sport F1 Team’s Jolyon Palmer who both retired from the race.
Red Bull Racing’s Daniel Ricciardo was forced to retire from the race duee to a rear brake fire.
The Formula One circus returns to Euripe in two weeks time for the Spanish Grand Prix at the Barrel Circuit De Catalunya.
