As Fernando Completes The Rookie Orientation Programme, Miles Goes On Tour
McLaren Honda Andretti driver Fernando Alonso completed the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil rookie orientation programme which has put him officially on the entry list for the most famous motor race in the world.
Alonso’s arrival to the Verizon IndyCar Series for the Indianapolis 500 was made possible with the full support of the series, Michael Andretti, Doug Boles. McLaren’s Zak Brown and Hulman and Company President Mark Miles.
While Alonso has been busy at the Speedway today, Miles has been in Europe looking to use Alonso’s participation in order to boost the Verizon IndyCar Series popularity within Europe.
The series has pulled off a huge coupe in bringing Alonso over for the Indianapolis 500 as it is a win win for everyone involved. The series are looking to expand their market outside of the United States and Miles commented on the tour by saying:
It certainly doesn’t hurt that we’ll be top of mind again because of this May.
We’re not going over there to sell anything, but we are going to Europe the first week in May just to get with important broadcasters and the most important sports and national media in four countries.
“I think it’ll help us in that way – just get a little more momentum in Europe as we look to relicense our media rights.
The trip to Europe comes at a perfect time for the sport as it goes from strength to strength. At this moment in time, there are more international motor racing stars competing in the series than there are American drivers.
Miles has always said that he wants to expand the series internationally beyond the Toronto race in Canada.
It is fair to say that the Verizon IndyCar Series has a bright future and Fernando Alonso’s participation in the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil is an added bonus to the series.
