Daly Enjoys Really Fun Gateway Motorsports Park
AJ Foyt Racing’s Conor Daly in the No.4 ABC Supply Co. Chevrolet ended the afternoon session of the Verizon IndyCar Series open test at Gateway Motorsports Park on top of the timesheets.
Speaking following the test he said:
“I like this place, I think it’s really fun. “Turn 1 is super ‘road coursey.’ It’s a real fight getting into the center of it (Turn 1), and with the wind the way it is, it’s obviously a little sketchy on the exit of Turn 2, but, man, I like it.
Daly led a Chevrolet 1,2,3,4,5 with Team Penske drivers Helio Castroneves, Juan Pablo Montoya, Josef Newgarden and reigning series champion Simon Pagenaud taking four of the five spots in the top five.
Speaking about the test, Helio Castroneves stated:
“It’s huge just to get the rhythm, the momentum. “This is a very tricky place, especially Turn 1. Basically, if you don’t do a good job in Turn 1, your lap time is gone. You’ve got to open up the lap very well. It’s great to be having a day here (to practice), for sure.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon in the No.9 NTT DATA machine was once again just like the early session the fastest Honda car in sixth place.
