From Spain To Indy – Alonso Heads Stateside To Get On Track For The 500
McLaren Honda’s Fernando Alonso started Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix from seventh place on the grid and came home in 12th place.
The double Formula One champion now heads straight to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway traveling overnight to make to the speedway for the start of practice for the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil.
Alonso passed the rookie orientation programme last week so he will be back on track with the entire field on Monday afternoon. It will be the first time that Alonso will be on track with the entire field of 33 cars.
Alonso will join his five team mates, Ryan Hunter Reay, Takuma Sato, defending Indianapolis 500 champion Alexander Rossi, Marco Andretti, and Jack Harvey at the Speedway.
When it comes to what the weather will be like in the build up to qualifying next weekend, it will be warm and sunny until Thursday when rain is set to hit the circuit.
