Dixon Is The Unofficial Points Leader Heading Into The 500
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon heads into Sunday’s 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil holding the unofficial points lead in the Verizon IndyCar Series championship standings.
Following the Indy Grand Prix of Indianapolis, Dixon was ten points behind reigning series champion Simon Pagenaud, however following Sunday’s pole run the New Zealander is 21 points ahead of Pagenaud.
Although Dixon has yet to win a race this season he has been extremely consistent with the No.9 Honda which has put him in the strong position ahead of Sunday’s 500.
Dixon starts Sunday’s race from pole position alongside Ed Carpenter and defending Indianapolis 500 winner Alexander Rossi.
Takuma Sato starts the race from fourth while Fernando Alonso starts his first Indianapolis 500 from fifth place.
Dixon understands that it’s a long race where anything can happen but he has the experience and talent to fight for the win.
