Montoya Not Thinking About The Triple Crown
Two time Indianapolis 500 winner Juan Pablo Montoya says he is not thinking about motor racing’s triple crown.
The Colombian who is joined on Sunday’s grid for the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil by double Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso is aiming to win his third Indianapolis 500 title.
Montoya, who will drive the No.22 Fitzgerald Glider Kits Chevrolet for Team Penske on Sunday was asked on Thursday if he had any interest in attempting the triple crown by completing at LeMans 24 Hours Montoya who won the Monaco Grand Prix in 2003 stated:
I don’t know, not really. I mean, is it in my mind I need to do this? No, not really.”
Montoya went on to say:
If you get an opportunity to go and experience Le Mans, I think that would be cool at some point. “If it doesn’t happen, I’m OK, too. Would it change my life if it doesn’t happen? No.
Montoya’s assertion about LeMans would appear for the moment at least put to bed speculation about the Colombian joining tje World Endurance Championship with Team Penske any time some soon.
Montoya’s immediate attention and focus is on winning Sunday’s 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil.
Montoya starts Sunday’s race from 18th place on the grid.
