IndyCar Adds Chinese Broadcasters Starting With Sunday’s Indianapolis 500


The Verizon IndyCar Series announced on the eve of the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil that they have signed agreements with three Chinese broadcasters to show LIVE or recorded races starting with Sunday’s 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil.

The news comes as the sport edges closer to hosting a non championship event in China in 2019.

Speaking about the announcement, the Verizon IndyCar Series Vice President of Promoter relations, Steven Starks commented by saying:

This is huge for INDYCAR and we hope it is viewed the same way by motorsports fans in China. “It’s a big step toward the development of the sport in China, of which we have for a long time wanted to play an important part.

Tencent, China’s largest internet platform will live stream select Verizon IndyCar Series races includes Sunday’s Indianapolis 500 and the season finale, GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma.

High Sport will have on demand features of races plus highlights and other features. Guangdong TV will show highlights and race features.

Speaking following the announcement, President of Hulman and Company, the Verizon IndyCar Series parent company, Mark Miles commented by saying:

Someday we hope to race internationally, and possibly in China, which is very important to us. “The signing of this partnership is a terrific first step in presenting INDYCAR racing to the Chinese people.
