It’s Great To Be Back Again In Belle Isle
Team Penske’s Helio Castroneves in the No.3 Hitachi Chevrolet heads into this weekend’s Chevrolet Belle Isle Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear leading the Verizon IndyCar Series points standings by 11 from team mate Simon Pagenaud, Indianapolis 500 winner Takuma Sato and Scott Dixon after his second place finish in Sunday’s Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil.
Castroneves ended the day with the fastest time overall, a 01:15.1511s and speaking following the session the Brazilian commented by saying:
First of all, it’s great to be back again in Belle Isle. I think there were several things (that led to success for me at this track). First, it’s probably on the emotion side. I won my first race here, so you have that special attachment. When you win your first race ever, you do have good memories, I guess. In race car driving, some careers, some drivers’ careers, some tracks are really, really suitable. Probably because the combination with the asphalt, concrete, it probably suits me really well. Normally, with the drivers looking to each other for data, I’m always looking to learn. This is one of the tracks that I don’t look to (my teammates’) data. Actually they’re looking to mine, which means it comes natural. Probably that’s why. Maybe my style, maybe the way I drive, things like that. That’s one of the reasons it suits me really well. It’s great. Not only is a place that is very important for a lot of people, especially for Roger (Penske, team owner), but it’s because of the corporation, Penske Corp., is here. And Detroit, Detroit has really put a lot of effort into this place. I really feel that we’re driving for the home team. It’s great to have that support.
