Sato Continues Indy Momentum By Taking Pole In The No.26 Rocket Ship In Detroit
Indianapolis 500 winner Takuma Sato in the No.26 Ruoff Home Mortgage Honda for Andretti Autosport will start this afternoon’s Chevrolet Dual in Detroit presented by Lear race 2 from pole position, continuing his momentum following his Indianapolis 500 win last weekend.
The Japanese driver set a qualifying time of 01.13.6732s and speaking following the session, he commented by saying:
The (No.) 26 car was a rocket ship. “Going through my (fast) lap, I mean, I gave 100 percent everything. There was nothing left on the inches. I was nearly hit the wall twice, but I was happy, I was confident. It’s absolutely team credit.
“To set the track record in this challenging track, it means a lot to me, and I’m very, very happy.
Sato is joined on the front row by his Andretti Autosport team mate Ryan Hunter Reay in the No.28 DHL Honda while Graham Rahal who won on Saturday completed a Honda 1,2,3 on the grid.
