Kimball On Pole In Texas As Ganassi Lock Out The Front Row

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Charlie Kimball will start the Rainguard Water Sealers 600 at Texas Motor Speedway from pole position on Saturday night after setting a fastest speed of 222.556MPH and will start the race just ahead of his team mate and series points leader Scott Dixon. Speaking following the session Kimball commented by saying:

I’m really excited to be on pole. The guys totally deserve it.

“The No. 83 Tresiba Honda was really good right out of the box and Todd (Malloy, engineer) made a few adjustments that made it better during the course of practice. During qualifying, we just took a swing at it and went out and got the job done.

Kimball, driving the No.83 Tresiba® Honda went on to say:

I’m really excited to be on pole. The guys totally deserve it. Everyone at Chip Ganassi Racing has been working so hard and the boys have had my back all year long through the good, the bad, and the ugly. It’s so nice to be able to repay them with a pole position here at Texas Motor Speedway. The No. 83 Tresiba Honda was really good right out of the box and Todd made a few adjustments that made it better during the course of practice. During qualifying we just took a swing at it and went out and got the job done.

Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi in the No.98 Curb Honda starts the race from third place just ahead of Chip Ganassi Racing’s Tony Kanaan in the No.10 NTT DATA Honda who commented following the session by saying:

I feel like we put together a really good lap and I’m happy with where we are in terms of speed right now in the NTT Data car. We still have a little work to do though. My teammates have good cars too so that will be great data to go look at when we’re done tonight. The track really got better as we went on for sure. But hat’s off the Charlie on his first pole. He put together a great two laps.

Dale Coyne Racing’s Tristan Vautier who is filling in for the injured Sebastien Bourdais in the No.18 Honda will start the race in 5th place.

It was a great session for Max Chilton in the No.8 Gallagher Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing as the Englishman will start Saturday’s race from sixth place on the grid and speaking following the session he commented by saying:

We’re working on getting a little more speed in the Gallagher car. The new configuration to the banking in Turns 1 and 2 have been a bit tough to adjust to. We can get through Turns 3 and 4 flat, but still need some adjustments to do the same in 1 and 2 to get those good, consistent and fast speeds.

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Mikhail Aleshin in the No.7 SMP Racing Honda starts the race from seventh place just ahead of Indianapolis 500 winner Takuma Sato. Will Power in the No.12 Verizon Chevrolet was the leading Penske and Chevrolet powered car and will start the race from ninth place while his Penske team mate Helio Castroneves in the No.3 AAA Insurance Chevrolet rounds out the top ten.

Defending Texas race winner and winner last time out in Detroit Graham Rahal in the No.15 Mi-Jack/Bobby Rahal Automotive Honda starts the race from 11th place just ahead of reigning series champion Simon Pagenaud in the No.1 DXC Technology Chevrolet.

Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter Reay in the No.28 DHL Honda starts the race from 13th place just ahead of Ed Carpenter in the No.20 Fuzzy’s Vodka Chevrolet.

Marco Andretti in the No.27 Honda starts the race from 15th place just ahead of Schmidt Peterson Motorsports James Hinchcliffe in the No.5 Arrow Honda. The Canadian starts the race just ahead of Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden in the No.2 Hum by Verizon Chevrolet.

JR Hildebrand in the No.21 Fuzzy’s Vodka Chevrolet starts the race from 18th place just ahead of Dale Coyne Racing’s Ed Jones in the No.19 Honda.

On his return to the Verizon IndyCar Series with Harding Racing for the first time since their debut at the Indianapolis 500 last month, Gabby Chaves in the No.88 Chevrolet will start the race from 20th place just ahead of AJ Foyt Racing’s Conor Daly in the No.4 ABC Supply Co Chevrolet. Carlos Munoz in the No.14 ABC Supply Co Chevrolet rounds out the grid in 22nd place.
