Hamilton Closes The Gap To Vettel To One Point After Silverstone Win
Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team’s Lewis Hamilton took a lights to flag victory at his home race, the British Grand Prix at the Silverstone circuit leading a team 1-2 finish ending the race just ahead of Scuderia Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen.
It was Hamilton’s fifth win at the British Grand Prix and he has now closed the gap in the championship to just one point to leader Sebastian Vettel.
Raikkonen was in second place for most of the race but was forced to make a pit-stop in the closing stages of the race after he suffered a puncture. Vettel also suffered the same issue and finished the race in seventh place.
Valtteri Bottas finished the race in second place. Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen finished the race in fourth place just ahead of team mate Daniel Ricciardo who came from the back of the field to finish the race in fifth place. The Renault Sport F1 Team’s Nico Hulkenberg finished the race in sixth place.
Sebastian Vettel finished the race in seventh place just ahead Force India’s Esteban Ocon and Sergio Perez.
Felipe Massa rounded out the top ten for the Williams Martini Racing team. McLaren Honda’s Stoffel Vandoorn ended the race in 11th place just outside the points. The Haas F1 Team’s Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean finished the race in 12th and 13th place respectively.
Marcus Ericsson was 14th for the Sauber F1 Team just ahead of Daniil Kvyat. Lance Stroll ended the race in 16th place just ahead of Sauber’s Pascal Wehrlein.
The race start was aborted due to Jolyon Palmer stopping on track with a hydraulic issue meaning the race was reduced by one lap. There was also a safety car following Daniil Kvyat and Carlos Sainz colliding resulting in Sainz retiring from the race. Fernando Alonso also retired from the race for McLaren.
