An Irish Connection With The Honda Indy Toronto
The Verizon IndyCar Series were in Canada over the weekend for the Honda Indy Toronto where Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden scored his second win of the 2017 season coming home just ahead of Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi and Schmidt Peterson Motorsport’s hometown hero James Hinchcliffe.
The Mayor of HinchTown, from Oakville Ontario scored his second consecutive third place finish around the streets of Exhibition Place.
There was an Irish connection with the trophies handed out to the top three drivers on Sunday as they were produced by William Ashley using Waterford Crystal.
Waterford Crystal dates back to County Waterford in Ireland where brothers George and William Penrose successfully petitioned parliament to set up their vast glass manufacturing plant in 1783 with the plant opening in October 1783.
