Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Working On Retaining Hinchcliffe

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports are understood to be working on retaining James Hinchcliffe for the 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series.

The Mayor of HinchTown is out of contract at the end of the season and is believed to want to stay with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports next season however is apparently seeking some guarantees from the team.

Paddock Eye understands however that SPM could face stiff competition from Chip Ganassi Racing who are believed to be interested in signing the Canadian to drive alongside Scott Dixon and Tony Kanaan.

Over the course of the Honda Indy 200 weekend it was reported that Carlin Racing will enter the Verizon IndyCar Series in 2018 with Max Chilton moving to the team drove with in the Indy Lights championship.

The reports suggested that Chilton, whose father is a shareholder in Carlin Racing has spoken to Charlie Kimball about the possibility of the pair running with Carlin next season.

What is unclear is the future of Schmidt Peterson Motorsports second driver Mikhail Aleshin who has endured a tough 2017 season.

It has been reported that if Andretti Autosport switch to Chevrolet next season that Honda are keen to take Alexander Rossi over to Schmidt Peterson Motorsports alongside Hinchcliffe.

It is expected that at least some of the jigsaw pieces will be in place by the time the Verizon IndyCar Series gets to Pocono next month.
