Castroneves Close To Claiming His First Verizon IndyCar Series Championship Title
Team Penske’s Helio Castroneves could have a lot to celebrate at the end of the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season.
The Brazilian is celebrating 20 years in the Verizon IndyCar Series and has been extremely consistent and competitive this season. Castroneves, who drives the No.3 Hitachi Chevrolet for Roger Penske took his first Verizon IndyCar Series victory since 2014 at the Iowa Corn 300 earlier this season.
Castroneves has three podium finishes this season including a second place finish at the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil in May.
Spider-Man has three Indianapolis 500 wins in his 20 years in the Verizon IndyCar Series however he has yet to win a series championship, something that he is hoping to correct in 2017.
If Castroneves wins the championship this year he would be the second Team Penske driver to the title in a row after Simon Pagenaud took the win last year.
Castroneves heads to ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway next time out with a seven point deficit to his team mate Josef Newgarden who has won the last two races in a row in Toronto and last time out at Mid-Ohio.
