Power Can Still Win The Title
Team Penske’s Will Power may be fifth in the series championship standings with just four races remaining this season but the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series champion still believes he can win his second series title.
It has been a tough season for the Australian having suffered a number of setbacks during the season with engine failures or other issues.
Power has two wins so far this season having taken victory at the IndyCar Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Rainguard Water Sealers 600 at the Texas Motor Speedway. The Australian has scored five podium finishes this season including last time out at the Honda Indy 200 at the Mid-Ohio sports car course where he finished the race in second place behind team mate Josef Newgarden.
Power believes the No.12 Verizon crew can win the championship if they have solid weekend’s in the final four races of the season.
The Australian believes he has come back stronger this year following a tough start to the 2016 season which saw him miss the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg however he came back to challenge team mate Simon Pagenaud who won the championship at the season finale GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma.
This time last season, Power and Pagenaud were leading the championship with 58 points separating the pair. In 2017, the top six drivers in the championship, Newgarden, Castroneves, Dixon, Pagenaud, Power and Rahal are all separated by 58 points.
Power heads to Pocono next time out just 52 points behind series leader and Penske team mate Josef Newgarden.
