A Phenomenal First Season At Penske For Newgarden

Josef Newgarden heads into the final race of the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season, the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma this weekend with a three point lead in the championship over Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon.

The Tennessee native moved to Team Penske ahead of the start of the 2017 season from Ed Carpenter Racing, replacing Juan Pablo Montoya in the No.2 Chevrolet.

In only his third race with the team, Newgarden, in the No.2 Fitzgerald Glider Kits Chevrolet took victory. The American followed this up with victories in Toronto, Mid-Ohio and at the Bommarito Automotive Group 500.

Newgarden has gelled exceptionally well with his new team and his new race strategist, Team Penske president Tim Cindric.

Newgarden has eight podium finishes in 2017 including his four victories this season. The American has scored more wins this season than any other drivers in the Verizon IndyCar Series.

Team Penske founder and owner, Roger ‘The Captain’ Penske has said that Newgarden is one of the best drivers he has ever had in his team in the Verizon IndyCar Series.
