Realistically It’s A Two Horse Race For The Title On Sunday
The Verizon IndyCar Series championship comes down to Sunday’s GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma.
It has been a fantastic weekend so far for Team Penske whose championship leader Josef Newgarden led the way in both sessions.
Saturday is when the pressure really starts because whoever is on pole for tomorrow’s race will receive a bonus point.
Realistically although five drivers are in the hunt for the title, Josef Newgarden and Scott Dixon are the ones who will win the title on Sunday.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon has the advantage going into the race on Sunday because Team Penske’s four drivers are all up for the title which puts added pressure on the team.
Newgarden has yet to score a pole position this season and this would be a massive bonus for the Tennessee native if could score the Verizon P1 Award later today.
Scott Dixon has one Verizon P1 Award this season which came at the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil.
Anything can happen but with Newgarden and Dixon it looks like it is a two horse race for the championship.
