Claman DeMelo Makes A Strong Case For A Full-Time IndyCar Drive In 2018
Canadian Zachary Claman DeMelo made his Verizon IndyCar Series debut at the season finale GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.
Claman DeMelo joined series veteran Graham Rahal to form a two car team for the final race of the season. The Canadian driving the No.13 PaySafe Honda didn’t disappoint, he was extremely quick and got up to speed in no time at all.
Claman DeMelo set the fastest lap of the 85 lap race on Sunday a total of nine times and finished the race in 17th place having started the event from 21st.
Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing will expand to a two car full-time programme in 2018 with Takuma Sato set to be confirmed alongside Graham Rahal soon however team owner Bobby Rahal has hinted that the team may expand to three cars given the right opportunity and if it is commercially and financially viable.
If the team were to sign Claman DeMelo up to a third car he would be able to draw on the experience of two of the most experienced drivers in the series. We will just have to watch this space.
