Verizon IndyCar Series driver Alexander Rossi will not be returning to Formula One for the next race, the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas according to his spokeswoman.

It was reported on Sunday following the Japanese Grand Prix that Toro Rosso were interested in signing Rossi to drive in place of Carlos Sainz who heads to Renault from the United States Grand Prix onwards.

The 2016 Indianapolis 500 winner recently signed a contract extension to race in the Verizon IndyCar Series with Andretti Autosport.

The Californian’s spokeswoman confirmed that the Formula One story is just a rumor and that Rossi will in fact be out of the country at the time of the race at the Circuit of the Americas so would have been unavailable to drive.
