Alonso Joins United Autosports For The Daytona 24 Hours
McLaren Honda’s Fernando Alonso will add another string to his racing bow in January 2018 when he contests the 24 Hours of Daytona on January 27 and 28 with McLaren Executive Director Zak Brown’s endurance racing team United Autosports.
Alonso, who last week signed a mult-year contract extension with McLaren who switch to Renault power from next season will join Williams Martini Racing’s Paul Di Resta in United Autosports driver line-up.
The news comes after the two time Formula One world champion competed in the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil in an entry which partnered McLaren with Andretti Autosport. Verizon IndyCar Series team owner Michael Andretti attended the United States Grand Prix at the weekend as a guest of McLaren and Zak Brown.
Racer.com reports that Alonso will run the United Autosports car for the first time just prior to the Formula One season ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix next month.
The Spaniard will be reunited with Helio Castroneves and Juan Pablo Montoya with whom he competed against in the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil as the pair will compete in the Daytona 24 Hours with Team Penske.
