Verizon IndyCar Series veteran and four time champion Scott Dixon says he felt that his countryman Brendon Hartley’s Formula One debut in the United States Grand Prix last weekend with Toro Rosso was fantastic.

Speaking to Racer, Dixon said it was so  good to see what a big talent Hartley has become having been extremely successful in the World Endurance Championship with Porsche.

Hartley overcame grid penalties at the Circuit of the Americas to finish Sunday’s race in 13th place. The New Zealander’s performance has earned him a second race with the team this weekend as the Formula One circus heads to Mexico City for the Mexican Grand Prix.

Dixon hopes that Hartley, who it is believed is set to join the Iceman at Chip Ganassi Racing in the Verizon IndyCar Series in 2018 gets a proper opportunity to compete in Formula One. It is not yet known whether Toro Rosso with whom Hartley is racing with are intending to hire the New Zealander which would result in Chip Ganassi Racing receiving a buyout for Hartley’s services.

Dixon, who has been testing the new 2018 oval aero kit for Honda as preparations continue for the 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series at Texas Motor Speedway tested for the Williams Formula One team in 2004 when the team were powered by BMW.
