The news on Wednesday that Chip Ganassi Racing have signed 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series rookie of the year Ed Jones to drive the No.10 NTT DATA Honda alongside Scott Dixon came a huge surprise to everyone in the paddock.

New Zealander Brendon Hartley had been tipped to join his fellow countryman Scott Dixon at Ganassi next season. Hartley made his Formula One race debut at the Circuit of the Americas last weekend for the United States Grand Prix and was extremely impressive and as a result he has earned another race with Toro Rosso in Mexico this weekend.

Red Bull adviser Dr Helmut Marko is a fan of Hartley’s and confirmed on Wednesday that Daniil Kvyat will not return to Toro Rosso this season.

The Italian team are therefore likely to run both Brendon Hartley and Pierre Gasly for the final three races of the season in Mexico this weekend, Brazil and in Abu Dhabi next month.

Hartley had a tough start to his Toro Rosso racing career having started the race from the back of the grid however he put that behind him and finished the race 13th place and showed Red Bull that he has matured as a driver.

The likely scenario for the 2018 Formula One season is that Pierre Gasly and Brendon Hartley will drive for the Italian team.
