Mercedes And Red Bull End Day One In Mexico Fastest
Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team’s Valtteri Bottas set the fastest time in the opening session on Friday as the on track action got underway in Mexico ahead of Sunday’s race while in the second session this afternoon it was Red Bull Racing’s Daniel Ricciardo who set the pace.
Bottas set a fastest time in the morning of 01:17.824s on the ultra soft tyre while in the second session Ricciardo set a fastest time of 01:17.801s and ended the session just ahead of championship leader Lewis Hamilton while Max Verstappen was third in the second Red Bull.
Sebastian Vettel was fourth fastest for Ferrari just ahead of his team mate Kimi Raikkonen while Valtteri Bottas was sixth in the second Mercedes.
McLaren Honda’s Fernando Alonso was seventh fastest just ahead of Force India’s Sergio Perez while the Renault Sport F1 Team’s Nico Hulkenberg was ninth fastest for the Enstone outfit. Esteban Ocon in the second Force India rounded out the top ten.
Carlos Sainz in the second Renault finished the session in 11th place just ahead of Williams Martini Racing’s Felipe Massa. Brendon Hartley did a great job as he finished the session in 13th place just ahead of Lance Stroll. McLaren Honda’s Stoffel Vandoorne ended the session in 15th place.
Pascal Wehrlein was 16th for the Sauber F1 Team just ahead of the Haas F1 Team’s Kevin Magnussen while Marcus Ericsson was 18th just ahead of Pierre Gasly.
Romain Grosjean rounded out the order in 20th place for the Haas F1 Team.
