Hamilton Was Better This Year
Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel has conceded that Mercedes Lewis Hamilton was better than him this year. The pair fought tooth and nail during the 2017 season which resulted in Hamilton claiming his fourth world championship and in doing so became the most successful British Formula One driver.
Speaking to NBC Sport following Sunday’s Mexican Grand Prix where he finished in fourth place behind his Ferrari team mate Kimi Raikkonen, Sebastian Vettel said:
I’m down obviously, It’s tough to cross the line and realize that you’re not in the fight anymore.
On the opening lap of the Mexican Grand Prix, Vettel collided with Hamilton as the pair challenged Max Verstappen for the lead of the race going into turn 3 which resulted in Vettel breaking his front wing forcing him to make an unscheduled stop for a new front wing while Hamilton had to crawl back to the pits with a puncture.
Vettel went on to say that it was Lewis’ day, he won the championship and he deserved it. Vettel told Sky Sports F1 that he doesn’t fear Hamilton and that he likes racing against him.
Hamilton took the championship with nine wins so far this season with two races remaining he could very easily increase that tally. When you look at that statistic it is half of the races in 2017 so far that Hamilton has won compared to Sebastian Vettel’s four wins.
