Kimball Confident About 2018 IndyCar Plans
Charlie Kimball says he is confident about his plans for the 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series season. The Californian who spent seven years with Chip Ganassi Racing is on the hunt for a new drive after Chip Ganassi Racing confirmed that they will run just two cars in 2018 with Ed Jones joining Scott Dixon for 2018.
Kimball is fortunate in that he brings with him sponsorship from long-term backer NovoNordisk who have been with Kimball since he entered IndyCar with Chip Ganassi in 2011.
The options for a full-time drive are currently limited with just Dale Coyne Racing seeking a full-time replacement for Ed Jones. Paddock Eye understands that former Formula One driver turned Verizon IndyCar Series driver Esteban Gutierrez is the leading contender to join Sebastien Bourdais at Dale Coyne Racing having driven for the outfit in place of Bourdais when the Frenchman was sidelined as a result of injury.
Carlin have been silent about their plans for 2018 amid suggests that they will go full-time in the Verizon IndyCar Series in 2018 making the step up from the Indy Lights championship.
If Trevor Carlin’s plans for a full-time two car programme do indeed prove fruitful, our understanding is that Max Chilton, whose dad is a part owner in Carlin will get one of seats with Arthur Gallagher sponsorship while Kimball is almost certain to get the second seat with NovoNordisk sponsorship. ,
