Button To Retain Close Ties To McLaren
Jenson Button is expected to retain close ties to McLaren when his contract expires at the end of the 2017 season.
The 2009 world champion who joined McLaren from Brawn GP in 2010 was replaced at the team this year by their test and reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne with Button moving into the role of test and reserve driver.
Button returned to Formula One for a one off race at the 2017 Monaco Grand Prix where e filled in for Fernando Alonso who was competing in the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil in a McLaren Honda Andretti car.
Paddock Eye understands that Button who will return to full-time racing in Japan in 2018 will retain close ties with McLaren and will take up an ambassador role for the outfit.
On Monday, McLaren confirmed that 17 year old Lando Norris will be the teams official test and reserve driver for the 2018 Formula One season.
