Hamilton Leads The Way In Opening Practice

New 2017 world champion Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time in the opening session at the Interlagos circuit ahead of Sunday’s Brazilian Grand Prix.

The four time world champion set a fastest time of 01:09.202s ending the session just ahead of his Mercedes team mate Valtteri Bottas while Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen was third fastest with a time of 01:09.744s.

Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen was fourth fastest just ahead of team mate Daniel Ricciardo while Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel who admitted that his incident with Hamilton in Baku set him back for the rest of the 2017 season was sixth fastest.

In his last Friday morning session at his home event, Brazil’s Felipe Massa was seventh quickest for Williams Martini Racing with a time of 01:10.102s.

McLaren Honda’s Stoffel Vandoorne was eighth fastest just ahead of Force India’s Esteban Ocon. Fernando Alonso in the second McLaren rounded out the top ten with a fastest time of 01:10.476s.

Williams Martini Racing’s Lance Stroll had a strong session in 11th place just ahead of Force India’s George Russell who was extremely impressive as the Englishman made his Formula One practice debut this morning. Russell set a fastest speed of 01:11.047s.

The Haas F1 Team were up next with Romain Grosjean in 13th place just ahead Kevin Magnussen.

The Renault Sport F1 Team’s Carlos Sainz was 15th just ahead of team mate Nico Hulkenberg. Charles Leclerc drove for Sauber in place of Pascal Wehrlein setting a fastest time of 01:11.802s ending the session just ahead of his team mate Marcus Ericsson.

Toro Rosso’s Pierre Gasly and his team mate Brendon Hartley rounded out the order in 20th place with Hartley failing to set a time.
