The FIA have announced that they will discuss security arrangements at Formula One races at the next meeting of the World Motorsport Council following a spate of robbery attempts on Formula One personnel over the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend.

This is of little comfort to the families of team personnel who are travelling to races throughout the season and they shouldn’t have to fear about

Formula One and the team’s have a responsibility to ensure the safety of the personnel at Grand Prix events after all the personnel are their employees and they should be provided with the necessary protection.

Team personnel should feel safe travelling to and from their workplace and making promises that the issue of security will be looked it is not good enough.

As world champion Lewis Hamilton said these incidents happen EVERY YEAR in Brazil and it is only a matter of time before a member of a Formula One team or fans are injured or worse.

The FIA organised extra security over the course of the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend, however the addition security did nothing to discourage robbery attempts as on all three days of the race weekend in Brazil there were incidents involving Formula One personnel.

On Sunday, Pirelli’s own security team were the ones who managed to get their personnel out of the situation they were in as they left the Interlagos circuit.

I understand that there is only so much the sport can do as whole to stop situations like this from happening however the sport has had these situations for years and years.

Formula One as a sport, the FIA and the race promoters need to come together with a security action plan.
