Former Verizon IndyCar Series driver Danica Patrick announced on Friday that she will compete in the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil next May.

Patrick who will compete in her last full-time race in NASCAR with Stewart Hastings Racing later today in Miami made the announcement on Friday.

The reaction to Danica’s return has been extremely positive from within the sport, with several teams and drivers wishing her well.

However many so called IndyCar fans have expressed their anger at her return. At Paddock Eye we were shocked by some of the comments we saw on Sunday.

To wish that a driver wrecks in a race is extremely bad and unacceptable. There have been enough accidents in our sport without wishing for another one.

You may not like the fact that she is returning and fans are entitled to their own opinion however wishing that any driver wrecks is completely unacceptable.

Chip Ganassi has confirmed that he has held initial talks with Danica about putting her in one of his cars for the Double Danica in the Daytona 500 and the Indy 500.

Ganassi said that there is a long way to go before a deal is done with Patrick but if it happens with Ganassi DP will be extremely competitive.
