One Hell Of A Race For Renault In Abu Dhabi
The Renault Sport F1 Team had what they described as one hell of a race in the 2017 Formula One season ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the Yas Marina circuit on Sunday. Starting the race from seventh place on the grid, Nico Hulkenberg made a good start to the event.
The German was handed a five second time penalty after going off circuit and overtaking former team mate Sergio Perez.
When Hulkenberg came in for his only pit-stop the team served the penalty but a problem with his rear tyre held the Hulk up in his stop losing him valuable time however Nico was able to get the time back and recovered to finish the race in sixth place and in doing so he helped secure sixth place in the Constructors championship for the Enstone based outfit.
It was a disappointing race for Carlos Sainz Jr in the second Renault. The Spaniard looked on target to finish in the points however during his only pit-stop his crew failed to secure his front left tyre probably and the this caused the tyre to come off the car forcing Sainz to retire from the race.
Renault were fined $5,000 for the incident. Speaking on Twitter following the race, Sainz said:
@RenaultSportF1 !! P6 in the constructors championship and 4th fastest car out there today. A pitty we couldnt double points finish but great effort and thanks for this 4 races!
