Claman DeMelo And Fittipaldi Set To Partner Bourdais At Dale Coyne Racing In 2018
Dale Coyne Racing look set to announce that two drivers will share the No.19 Honda alongside Sebastien Bourdais in the No.18 Honda for the 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series season.
Coyne was left needing a driver for the 2018 season following 2017 Sunoco rookie of the year Ed Jones’ move to Chip Ganassi Racing where he will partner Scott Dixon in the No.10 Honda.
Paddock Eye understands that Canadian Zachary Claman DeMelo, who made his Verizon IndyCar Series debut with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in the 2017 season finale Grand Prix of Sonoma will be joined in the No.19 Honda by Pietro Fittipaldi, the 21 year old grandson of two time Indianapolis 500 winner Emerson Fittipaldi.
Fittipaldi tested for Coyne in Sebring last week and impressed Dale Coyne. Fittipaldi and Claman DeMelo have yet to have their contracts formally agreed however Coyne has confirmed that this is just a formality.
Coyne has revealed that for the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 in May he could expand his team to a four car operation with Fittipaldi and Claman DeMelo joining Bourdais and Indianapolis 500 regular Pippa Mann at the world’s most famous motor race.
