Patrick’s Attention Switches To The Indianapolis 500

Danica Patrick was left disappointed following Sunday’s Daytona 500 which saw the 35 year old forced to retire from the race on lap 101 of the 200 lap race, her final NASCAR event.

Patrick, who re-united with for the race will now switch her attention to her final ever race, the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil in May where she will compete with Ed Carpenter Racing alongside team owner and two time Indianapolis 500 pole winner Ed Carpenter along with Spencer Pigot.

Patrick announced last week that she would compete in the Indianapolis 500 with Ed Carpenter Racing in May with an official announcement set to made in the next few weeks.

Carpenter confirmed last week that more information would be released regarding Patrick’s participation in the Indianapolis 500 with the team hoping that she can participate in a test programme similar to the one that Fernando Alonso did last year prior to competing in the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 with Andretti Autosport and McLaren.

Carpenter said that the team have been in talks with Mark Miles the CEO of Hulman and Company, the parent company of the Verizon IndyCar Series to see if they can come up with a plan for Patrick to allow her to get back up to speed with IndyCar.

Carpenter does not expect it to take long for Patrick to get back up to speed especially at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as this is a circuit where she has been so successful in the past. Carpenter also believes that with the package that his team give Patrick she will be in a position to challenge at the front in the race.
