Schmidt Peterson Motorsports James Hinchcliffe says that everyone in the Verizon IndyCar Series field goes into the month of May starting from scratch with the new universal aero kit as the opening day of testing gets underway at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway today in preparation for the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil.

Hinchcliffe who took pole position for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil heads into the month of May hoping to build on his recent momentum following his third place finish last time out at Barber Motorsports Park.

Speaking ahead of Monday’s test, the Mayor of HinchTown commented by saying:

It’s so new for everybody. “We’re all starting from scratch, we’re all starting from ground zero.

For the first time in the teams history Schmidt Peterson Motorsports will run four cars in the Indianapolis 500 with regular drivers James Hinchcliffe and Robert Wickens joined by the British pairing of Jack Harvey and Jay Howard and this is something that Hinchcliffe believes with be extremely beneficial to his team saying:

For us, (the testing) is just to log miles. We’ve got four cars in the race this year, which is a first for us. I think it’s a great year to have four cars because of all the extra data that we can gather with the new car. Ultimately just learn as much as we can. We’ve had a lot of really bad tests this year that we turned into really solid race weekends. We’re hoping to have a good test that we turn into an even better race weekend.

Hinch heads into the month of May in fifth place in the series standings just 40 points behind defending series champion and current leader Josef Newgarden from Team Penske.
