Formula One has taken a major step forward to increasing its presence in the United States of America with the news that authorities in Miami, Florida will vote next week about hosting a Grand Prix on the streets of Miami from October 2019.

The news comes as Formula One attempts to increase its foothold in the American market.

In August 2017, Long Beach city council announced that they would keep the Verizon IndyCar Series instead of making the switch to Formula One. It was reported over the weekend that authorities in Miami had purchased the pit-lane and paddock plans from the Baku circuit however officials from the Azerbaijan Grand Prix have denied this.

Formula One’s commercial director Sean Bratches believes that Miami is the perfect destination for the sport given the city’s tourism infrastructure.

Formula One has one existing race stateside with the United States Grand Prix taking place at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin Texas which has proven to be a huge hit among the fans since it made its debut on the Formula One calendar in 2012.
