DeMelo Replaces The Injured Fittipaldi For The IndyCar Grand Prix Of Indianapolis
Dale Coyne Racing announced on Thursday that Canadian Zachary Claman DeMelo who shares the No.19 Paysafe Honda with Pietro Fittipaldi will replace the Brazilian for this weekend’s IndyCar Grand Prix of Indianapolis at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course following Fittipaldi’s accident at the Spa Francorchamps last week where he broke both legs.
Speaking about racing on the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, Claman DeMelo commented by saying:
I’m extremely excited to get to race at the INDYCAR Grand Prix this weekend aboard the #19 Paysafe car, but I’m sad that it’s under these circumstances. My thoughts are first and foremost with Pietro (Fittipaldi), you never want to see that happen to a competitor, much less a teammate.
This weekend’s race will be Zachary Claman DeMelo’s fourth race of the 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series season.
Speaking about racing on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway he commented by saying:
Getting to race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is always special. I enjoyed racing there in Indy Lights and I can’t wait to now get a chance to drive there aboard an Indy car. It’s a fun track with some good passing opportunities which means it should be a good show for the fans. Hopefully we can turn our luck around and come out of the weekend with a good result.
Dale Coyne Racing confirmed that they will announce who will drive the No.29 Honda for both the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil and the race at Texas Motor Speedway at a later date.
